Bourns Acquires Central Office Surge Protection Products Assets from Corning Cable Systems LLC Asset Purchase Extends Bourns' Portfolio of Industry-Leading Protection Products and Protection Technology RIVERSIDE, Calif., June 19, 2009 — Bourns, Inc. today announces that the company has purchased substantially all of the assets of the central office surge protection products business from Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated's Telecommunications segment. This asset purchase extends Bourns' current offering of protection products and protection technology and further strengthens Bourns' position as a leading supplier for central office and remote access cabinet surge protection. Bourns will consolidate the central office surge protection products operation within its existing design and marketing operation in Riverside, California and manufacturing facilities in Costa Rica and Tijuana, Mexico. Corning Cable Systems' central office surge protection products, which include 5-pin, 4-pin, 1-pin protector modules, related protector blocks, connectors and protector panels, are sold principally to Telcos for use in central office and remote access cabinet surge protection applications in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Selected products are also purchased by manufacturers as components in higher level integrated copper products. The assets purchased by Bourns do not include any of Corning Cable Systems' other copper product solutions or European surge protection solutions. Bourns has previously acquired the communication protection products businesses of Joslyn Electronics and Emerson Network Power as well as Texas Instruments' solid state primary protection business and the innovative Transient Blocking Unit business of Fultec Semiconductor.
